Xbox Games on PlayStation Might Soon be a Thing
You might soon be able to play Xbox games on your PlayStation, as rumors suggesting Microsoft might break tradition and publish exclusive games on competing consoles have been heating up. A recent report indicates that ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle‘, one of the most anticipated Xbox games of 2024, could see a cross-platform release.
The Verge reported recently that Microsoft is exploring the possibility of publishing the new Bethesda-developed Indiana Jones title on Sony’s PlayStation 5, the Xbox’s primary market rival. While Microsoft has yet to confirm or deny this report, Xbox head Phil Spencer announced an upcoming “business update” next week, hinting at further news.
We're listening and we hear you. We've been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.

If true, this unprecedented move would be akin to streaming giants like Hulu licensing original programming to Netflix or Disney+. While Microsoft previously published ‘Minecraft’ on every platform imaginable (including rivals like the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch) such a move for major titles would be a seismic shift in the console gaming world.
Will We Start Seeing More Xbox Games on PlayStation?
This strategy aligns with the concessions Microsoft made to finalize the Activision Blizzard acquisition, promising to continue releasing titles like ‘Call of Duty’ on PlayStation. Releasing additional exclusives across platforms seems logical – particularly given contractual obligations.
While this change raises questions about a potential “Sega moment” for Xbox (referencing Sega’s exit from console manufacturing), Xbox is currently more relevant than ever. The Activision Blizzard acquisition solidifies its place as a core revenue driver for Microsoft. Microsoft executives have frequently discussed how console exclusives limit a game’s audience, potentially explaining this new direction.

In June, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella testified about his dislike for console exclusivity, highlighting how competition defines the market. This potential decision suggests a complete abandonment of the traditional “console war” concept. While Microsoft likely won’t stop making Xboxes, the focus appears to be shifting towards selling the Xbox ecosystem across platforms, charting a bold new course in the industry.
